Decisions you can appeal
- Removal, disabling access, quarantine, or refusal to publish your contribution.
- A warning, sensitivity gate, blur, correction label, dispute label, location generalization, event detachment, or visibility restriction affecting your content.
- A feature limit, account-standing measure, suspension, or termination.
- A decision not to act, or to act differently than requested, after you submitted an illegal-content notice or eligible policy report.
- A material verification, source, synthetic-media, or provenance determination that directly affects your contribution.
- A finding of repeated misuse that restricts your ability to submit content, notices, or appeals.
Purely technical outages, general product design choices, a change that affects everyone equally, and disputes already finally determined by a competent authority may use another support or legal route. Fireflies should explain the correct route rather than silently rejecting a misdirected request.
Deadline and access
Where the Digital Services Act applies, eligible internal complaints can be lodged for at least six months from the date Fireflies informs you of the decision. Fireflies may accept a later appeal where fairness, new evidence, disability, access difficulty, or a continuing serious impact justifies it.
The appeal is free. Use the appeal link in the statement of reasons or contact [LEGAL / DSA EMAIL] with the decision reference. The production service must provide an accessible form and must not require a public campaign, payment, or legal representative.
What to include
- Identify the decision
Provide the decision reference, exact URL or content ID, account ID, and date. Do not re-upload prohibited material unless Fireflies requests it through a protected channel.
- State the requested outcome
Say whether you want restoration, relabelling, a different location treatment, reversal of an account measure, a new notice outcome, or another specific remedy.
- Explain the error
Identify what fact, context, policy, legal issue, source relationship, or procedural step you believe was misunderstood.
- Provide focused evidence
Add originals, provenance, permission, publication context, publisher correction, official record, date or location evidence, or other material that could change the result.
- Protect other people
Redact unnecessary personal data and tell Fireflies if disclosure of the appeal to another person could create risk.
How Fireflies reviews an appeal
- Acknowledge
Fireflies confirms receipt and identifies missing information without undue delay.
- Protect the record
Relevant content, reasons, reports, provenance, and technical signals are preserved while the appeal is pending, subject to safety and law.
- Assign review
A suitably qualified person supervises the outcome. Where practical, the reviewer is not the person who made the original decision and is not evaluated on upholding it.
- Reassess
The reviewer considers the original record, new evidence, policy and legal basis, consistency, proportionality, territorial scope, duration, and less restrictive alternatives.
- Communicate outcome
Fireflies gives a clear result and reasons, identifies any restored or modified access, and explains further redress where applicable.
Timing and interim measures
Fireflies aims to acknowledge appeals promptly and resolve ordinary appeals within 30 days. Urgent safety or rapidly developing event matters should be prioritized. Complex, cross-border, evidence-heavy, or authority-dependent cases may take longer; Fireflies should explain the delay and provide a meaningful update.
Filing an appeal does not automatically restore content or an account. Fireflies may maintain an interim restriction where restoration could create legal, privacy, security, or physical-safety risk. It may also use a less restrictive interim measure such as a warning, blur, reduced reach, or location suppression.
Possible appeal outcomes
- Reversed
- The challenged decision is withdrawn and content, status, notice outcome, feature, or account access is restored as appropriate.
- Modified
- A different or narrower measure replaces the original—for example a blur instead of removal, a shorter restriction, a corrected label, or one-country restriction.
- Affirmed
- The original decision remains because the review found it supported and proportionate.
- Remitted
- The matter returns for a specialized review, additional evidence, or a competent authority’s input before a final decision.
- Unable to decide
- Fireflies cannot locate the decision, verify eligibility, or safely assess without specified missing information. This should not be used to avoid a diligent review.
If an appeal succeeds, Fireflies should reverse the measure without undue delay, correct relevant account standing, and restore or amend content where technically possible. Restoration can include a note when the earlier restriction materially affected the public event record.
What the outcome will explain
- The decision reviewed and the appeal outcome.
- The key facts, evidence, and arguments considered.
- The specific legal or policy basis, described in understandable language.
- The territorial scope and duration of any continuing measure.
- Whether automated tools materially contributed and how human review was involved.
- Any action Fireflies will take and the expected timing.
- Available external dispute, regulatory complaint, or court routes where applicable.
Fireflies may protect details that would expose a reporter, victim, confidential source, security method, ongoing investigation, or another person’s private data, or that it is legally prohibited from disclosing. The explanation should remain as specific as safely possible.
External redress
Where the Digital Services Act applies, eligible users and notifiers may choose a certified out-of-court dispute settlement body. The parties should engage in good faith, Fireflies may be required to bear specified fees, and the body’s decision does not remove either party’s right to court proceedings.
You may also contact the Digital Services Coordinator in the relevant EU Member State about DSA compliance or seek judicial relief. Privacy-right decisions can be challenged through the relevant data-protection authority. Intellectual-property and other specialist claims may have separate statutory procedures.
Good-faith use and repeat misuse
You will not be penalized merely because an appeal is unsuccessful, critical, frequent during a genuine incident, or written without legal terminology. Fireflies may act on frequent appeals that are manifestly unfounded only after a prior warning and a case-by-case, timely, diligent, and objective assessment.
The assessment considers volume and proportion, seriousness, apparent intention, effect on others, use of automation, and whether the person could reasonably understand prior decisions. Any suspension must be reasonable in duration and itself carry reasons and redress.
Privacy and contact
Appeals can contain identity, contact, upload, location, legal, and sensitive evidence data. Fireflies limits access to people and providers needed for review, safety, legal obligations, and redress, and retains a proportionate decision record under the Privacy Notice.
